<p>I have talked recently about doing a lot of video work. This past quarter I have been working for the UCI Athletics to create a promo video that sums up all the sports programs here at UCI.</p>
<p><span id="more-3474"></span></p>
<p>The process included writing a script, a shot list, scheduling times to meet with athletes and teams, building a track and dolly, shooting, editing, reviewing, editing, and exporting.</p>
<p>The video was Narrated by Don Brantley.<br />
The script was written by Ian Massey.<br />
Pratik Panda was the main assistant.<br />
CP Phan recorded the audio for the voice over.</p>
<p>Without the help of these people the video would not have turned out so well.</p>
<p>This is an example of the work I can produce. I am graduating in June 2010 and am looking for jobs.</p>
<p>Below, a screen shot from the basketball locker room.<br />

<p>On April 24th at 12am I participated in the <a href="http://www.mfd.computerstore.uci.edu/">UCI 24-hour Mad Film Dash</a> for the first time. Every year I have wanted to do it but I have been busy. This was the first year that I got a chance to participate and it was a lot of fun. Stressful but fun. I was on a team made up of several kids from my dorm. We were given three genres to choose from, those being Superhero, Drama, or Music Video. We choose music video thinking that it was going to be the easiest, although found that it was much harder than we had anticipated. Everything from the idea, script, filming, location finding, and editing were all done in 24 hours.</p>
<p><span id="more-3459"></span></p>
<p>We also had to incorporate a reusable bag, a reference to the UCI Bookstore, and the line &#8220;There&#8217;s more to it than that&#8221;.</p>
<p><strong>Team name:</strong> Silly Hot dog Monsters<br />
<strong>Team Number:</strong> 40<br />
<strong>Title:</strong> Telephone (Lady Gaga ft. Beyonce)<br />
<strong>Genre:</strong> Music Video<br />
<strong>Artifact:</strong> Reusable Bag<br />
<strong>Line:</strong> &#8220;There&#8217;s more to it than that&#8221;<br />
<strong><br />
Team Members:</strong><br />
- Pratik Panda<br />
- Scott Roeder<br />
- Jaclyn Wang<br />
- Christine Mathewson<br />
- Rashmi Guttal<br />
- Jessica Enriquez<br />
- Tiffany Anguiano</p>
<p>This film is made as part of the<br />
<a href="http://www.mfd.computerstore.uci.edu/">UCI Computerstores 6th Annual 24-Hour Mad Film Dash</a>.</p>
<p>Co-Sponsored by:<br />
-The UCI Computerstore (a department of The UCI Bookstore)<br />
-Apple<br />
-LaCie<br />
-AMP Energy<br />
-Film &amp; Media Studies<br />
-The Claire Trevor School of the Arts</p>
<p>The video was shot completely on a Canon 7D and with a 50mm 1.8. We used a custom DIY dolly for the rolling/panning shots. For lighting, we just grabbed desk lamps and other lights from our rooms and just lugged them around form location to location.</p>
<p>Here are some shots of the crew at two of the music video locations.</p>

<p>I have been doing filming for the UCI Women&#8217;s Basketball team and have been asked recently to work on several other video projects for UCI&#8217;s Athletic department. Right now I&#8217;m working with borrowed Canon 5D MKII&#8217;s. I&#8217;m looking into getting a 7D and will hopefully have something of my own so that I won&#8217;t have to keep bugging everybody to borrow a camera.</p>

<p style="clear: both">Throughout this week I have been switching cameras every couple days. I&#8217;ve been shooting with a Canon 5D MKII for a video project that I&#8217;ve been working on. When it came time to shoot my soccer assignment I forgot that I had lent my D3 to a friend. I figured that shooting soccer with the 5D would be nice, and it was&#8230;it just wasn&#8217;t as nice as shooting with a D3 and a 300mm prime. </p>
<p><span id="more-2441"></span></p>
<p style="clear: both">However, the colors on that camera are amazing and photos were sharp. Nothing to complain about.</p>
<p style="clear: both"><a href="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_2.jpg" class="image-link" rel="lightbox[2441]"><img class="linked-to-original" src="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_2-thumb.jpg" height="463" align="left" width="651" style=" display: inline; float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0;" /></a><br style="clear: both" /><strong>Canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm @ 200mm, 4000iso, f/2.8, 1/640, manual</p>
<p></strong>Pumped up? I would have to say yes.</p>
<p style="clear: both"><a href="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_3.jpg" class="image-link" rel="lightbox[2441]"><img class="linked-to-original" src="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_3-thumb.jpg" height="459" align="left" width="651" style=" display: inline; float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0;" /></a><br style="clear: both" /><strong>Canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm @ 200mm, 4000iso, f/2.8, 1/640, manual</strong></p>
<p>UC Irvine&#8217;s Amani Walker usually makes a photo interesting with acrobatic athleticism. </p>
<p style="clear: both"><a href="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_4.jpg" class="image-link" rel="lightbox[2441]"><img class="linked-to-original" src="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_4-thumb.jpg" height="432" align="left" width="651" style=" display: inline; float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0;" /></a><br style="clear: both" /><strong>Canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm @ 200mm, 4000iso, f/2.8, 1/640, manual<br /></strong></p>
<p style="clear: both"><strong><br /></strong>I was pleased to get the shot below of Amani Walker below sliding for a goal attempt. Its seems rare to get a shot of the player attempting to score a goal while being close enough to get the goalie in the photo. I think it turned out well.</p>
<p style="clear: both"><a href="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_5.jpg" class="image-link" rel="lightbox[2441]"><img class="linked-to-original" src="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_5-thumb.jpg" height="445" align="left" width="651" style=" display: inline; float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0;" /></a><br style="clear: both" /><strong>Canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm @ 150mm, 4000iso, f/2.8, 1/640, manual</strong></p>
<p>At most times during the game I wished that I had a longer lens. Even when I took this celebration photo below I had wished that I had a longer lens. When I went to edit this photo I realized that it is also a good dejection photo that shows the losing team in the background.</p>
<p style="clear: both"><a href="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_6.jpg" class="image-link" rel="lightbox[2441]"><img class="linked-to-original" src="http://www.scottroeder.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/10-14-09_Blog_Mens_Soccer_Roeder_6-thumb.jpg" height="392" align="left" width="651" style=" display: inline; float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0;" /></a><br style="clear: both" /><strong>Canon 5D MKII, 70-200mm @ 200mm, 4000iso, f/2.8, 1/640, manual<br /></strong></p>
<p style="clear: both">Less writing, more talking.</p>
