Just like being back in school

The UC Irvine Women’s Soccer team recently played in the Stanford-Nike Invitational Tournament. My friend and fellow photographer Lee got us passes through the Big West to shoot the match. This was UCI’s best season start, ranked 11th in the country and undefeated up until this game when they lost 2-0 to undefeated 2nd nationally ranked team, Stanford. It felt good to be shooting sports again, and with long glass thanks to our friend and professional photographer Michael Chen.

I was quickly reminded of how tired my face gets when I’m shooting in the sun for a couple hours. Going out and shooting this game brought back the feeling of being down at school. I didn’t have anything distracting me or weighing heavily on my mind, I was just having fun being focused on the game and getting some good shots. Unexpected Opportunity

I had plans of shooting the UC Irvine vs Stanford Women’s Soccer match on 9/11 with my friend and fellow photographer Lee. Due to misreading the game schedule we arrived at the Stanford soccer field almost three hours early. I then remembered that the Bay Area Sectional Tournament for Ultimate Frisbee was also being held at Stanford that day. We headed over to where the Ultimate games were being played but got there just as games were finishing up from the first round. After waiting about 30-45 min, the next round started and we shot the Revolver vs Boost Mobile game for a little while before heading back over to shoot the soccer game. I haven’t been shooting much because I’ve been busy with my full-time job and getting to shoot Ultimate and Soccer was a nice for a change. I also want to give a big shout-out to friend and professional photographer Michael Chen for letting us borrow some awesome gear to shoot with! Charles Jock Photoshoot + behind the scenes video

This was a fun photoshoot that I did with UCI Track star Charles Jock. I went out looking for a cool location to shoot and came across the UCI boiler room for all the water that is distributed throughout the campus. I went in and told them that I wanted to use the facility for an athlete photoshoot and they said it was ok, so a few hours later I came back with all my equipment and a few assistants. It was a pretty cool location to shoot because it was industrial, unique, and there weren’t any disturbances. The place was really loud and I was pretty much shouting the whole time, but there were very few workers actually in the space and the ones that were there just worked around us like we weren’t even there.

I have talked recently about doing a lot of video work. This past quarter I have been working for the UCI Athletics to create a promo video that sums up all the sports programs here at UCI.

The process included writing a script, a shot list, scheduling times to meet with athletes and teams, building a track and dolly, shooting, editing, reviewing, editing, and exporting.

The video was Narrated by Don Brantley.
The script was written by Ian Massey.
Pratik Panda was the main assistant.
CP Phan recorded the audio for the voice over.

Without the help of these people the video would not have turned out so well.

This is an example of the work I can produce. I am graduating in June 2010 and am looking for jobs.

Big West Track & Field Championships

The Big West Conference Track and Field Championships was the last track event that I would be shooting this year. It was all the way up in Northridge but I decided to make the drive up because I hadn’t had a chance to shoot any photos lately and because the only other sport that was still happening was Baseball. I tried to shoot UCI athletes as much as possible but it was also nice being free to shoot whoever because I was not officially on assignment.
