Hiking and processing

Hiking and processing

A big part of being a photographer that often goes unrecognized in my opinion is the post-processing. When I was shooting most assignments in college I did not have the opportunity to process my images. Now I have no direction and a lot of experimentation to work with. The post-processing applied to a photo can control the feeling that it gives to the viewer.

The Daily #5 – Boy Scout

The Daily #5 - Boy Scout

I’m quickly running out of things to shoot inside my house by myself. Lucky I have a bunch of random clothes, outfits, and costumes that should be able to keep me busy for at least a few more shoots.

The Daily #3 – Overhead

The Daily #3 - Overhead

I had two hours free in the middle of the day and I was coming up blank on the drawing boards. After going to work and getting home at close to 11pm I knew I had to shoot something. Knowing that I only had one backdrop paper at my house and that I used it a couple days ago for a shoot I decided to shoot against a red wall in one of the rooms in my house.

The Daily #2 – INTIMIDATION

The Daily #2 - INTIMIDATION

Sometimes on my lunch break I go home and prepare for a zombie attack. I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about killing zombies….but I do know about a little thing called INTIMIDATION. I don’t know many zombies that are willing to challenge me when I’m looking like this….

The Daily #1 – Back to Basics

The Daily #1 - Back to Basics

I haven’t been taking many photos lately due to the craziness that is my life. Between working two jobs and picking up some hobbies (trampoline class, rock climbing, geocaching, and a few others) I have gotten lazy and put photography on the back burner. I feel like I’ve begun to fall into a slump in terms of my photography, although its also a feeling of becoming rusty. I’ve see a lot of people do “365″ projects and I have always considered doing it. I’ve decided to pick myself up and get back on the creative learning track. My 365 Project aka “The Daily” starts today.

recreating a masterpiece…power rangers style

This last weekend I shot volleyball players from UCI, Argentina, Netherlands and Korea. I was trying to replicate this Power Rangers poster below:

The last time there was a baseball feature photo for The New University was um….never? The whole time I have been a photographer with The New University there has never been a feature photo of a baseball player. From what I’ve experienced, the UCI baseball team is an exclusive club, and it is hard to [...]

Recent feature assignments

Recent feature assignments

I’ve done two feature photos for sports articles in the past two weeks. It amazes me every time I pull one off. On top of work, ultimate, basketball, and school, I have no idea how I manage to take some photos on the side. And its not only taking the photo. Most of my time [...]

Goalie Portrait

Goalie Portrait

I did a quick portrait of UCI’s Mens Soccer team goalie. I used a ProPhoto 1200 watt kit. A softbox to the left of the camera and another light to the right and behind the goalie. Heres how it turned out:

A Step in a Different Direction

A Step in a Different Direction

My last few sports feature photos for the paper have been pretty much the same. Player(s) standing in the middle of the frame with a blacked out background. Yeah, it looks good, but its getting repetitive and not helping me learn anything. I did a portrait of UCI soccer super star, Matt Murphy. I took [...]
